The installation of Archbishop-designate Joe Vá​squez as the third Archbishop of Galveston-Houston will take place on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

Due to space constraints within the Cathedral, the Installation is a ticketed event. All tickets have already been allocated.

The Installation Mass will be livestreamed on the Archdiocesan website (www.archgh.org/live) and all are encouraged to view the Mass online.

In addition, Masses of Welcome/Thanksgiving for Archbishop-Designate Vasquez are being planned to occur at a number of parishes around the Archdiocese after Easter.  The details regarding these public Masses will be shared in the Texas Catholic Herald and on the Archdiocesan website once the schedule and locations have been determined.

Catholic Relief Services has long maintained a presence in Eastern Europe and is on the ground in Ukraine offering care and support amid the hostilities there. On the weekend of the Fourth Sunday of Lent, March 18th and 19th, all parishes in Galveston-Houston will be taking up the annual second collection for Catholic Relief Services.

The annual CRS collection as an opportunity for the faithful of Galveston-Houston to support the Church's work of bringing mercy and comfort to people in need in Eastern Europe. Contributions to this second collection will have a tangible effect in the lives of countless people in Ukraine.

The Catholic Relief Services Collection supports Catholic Church organizations that carry out international relief and solidarity efforts. Programs include relief and resettlement for victims of persecution, war, and natural disasters; development projects to improve living conditions for the poor; legal and support services for poor immigrants; peace and reconciliation work for people suffering from violence; and advocacy on behalf of the powerless.

This annual game has become a beloved tradition for many, and attendees can expect a lively atmosphere filled with cheering, laughter, and good-natured rivalry. On Holy Thursday, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper is held in the evening and begins the Paschal Triduum.

This Mass commemorates the institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood, rooted in Christ’s commands to “love one another” (Jn 15:17) and to “do this in memory of me.” (Lk 22:19) To this end, many priests will perform the optional ritual of the washing of feet, which imitates the example of Christ who humbled himself to wash the feet of his disciples at the Last Supper.

At the end of this Mass, the Eucharist is carried by the priest in solemn procession through the church until it arrives at a special place of repose where the faithful are encouraged to spend time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Meanwhile, the altar in the church is stripped bare and crosses are veiled or removed from the sanctuary.

Chancery offices will be closed on Holy Thursday.
